Playing Up

What is Playing Up?

Playing Up is the process of letting a player participate in an older age group when he/she exhibits exceptional skill.

Who can Play Up?

  • If you have a birthday after July 31st  that would result in you playing with students that are not in your grade you may play up.
  • Starting with U11, to Playup you must tryout for a both your Level and the higher Level.  If  you perform in the top third of the higher level at tryouts you can move up.
  • Any participant playing up must complete a Playing Up MYSA form.

Process to Request Playing Up

For the Summer 2012 Season, participants should register for their appropriate level based on their current soccer age.  Then to request playing up the Participant’s parent must:

1.       Send an email to their Age Coordinator (see Contacts for a complete listing) including their child’s current level, requested level, reason for playing up (see above for valid reasons), and if they have played up before.  This request will be reviewed by the Age Coordinator and Director of Coaching.

2.       If the requested level would result in a higher registration fee, than the parent must also send a check to Mahtomedi Soccer (see Contacts for current address) for the difference between the two levels.

3.       The request to play up will not be processed until both the request to the Age Coordinator and the check is received by the Registrar.

We hope to redesign and automate this process in the new website by the Fall 2012 Season.

Moving Up

  • If the Mahtomedi Soccer Association needs to move you up to complete the roster for a higher age level you may be asked to 'Move Up'.  'Move Ups' do not result in you paying the fee of the higher level.
