New Referee Certification Info & March 26th clinic in Mahtomedi

To anyone interested in becoming a soccer referee:

With the spring/summer soccer season fast approaching, the Mahtomedi Soccer Association (MSA) would like to encourage anyone interested in becoming a new referee to register for the upcoming U.S. Soccer Grassroots Entry Course hosted at the Mahtomedi High School Media Center on Sunday, March 26 from 9am to 2pm. Space is limited to 50 registrants on a first-come first-served basis and is open to anyone statewide, so please register early.

Please share this information with anyone who might be interested. Minnesota has been short on soccer referees statewide since 2020. While Mahtomedi Soccer Association pays among the most competitive referee rates in the metro, we also need a strong local pool of referees to sustain our growing TCSL league play. All of our players appreciate and value your involvement!

WHO CAN BECOME A REFEREE?

  • Anyone age 13 or older can become a certified MNSRC referee. You must be a minimum of 13 years old to certify when you start the process, no exceptions.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO BECOME CERTIFIED?

All certifications now run through the U.S. Soccer Learning Center in partnership with the MNSRC. To get certified, you must:

  • Register for and attend one 5-hour U.S.Soccer Grassroots Entry course (in-person)

  • Prior to the course, complete the online Introduction to Safe and Healthy Playing Environments module (online)

  • Prior to the course, complete the online First Time Online Grassroots Module (online)

  • Prior to the course, complete the online Laws of the Game Update module (online)

  • Within one week of completing the course, complete the First Time Grassroots Referee Quiz (online; minimum score of 25, as many attempts as needed)

HOW MUCH DOES CERTIFICATION COST?

  • The Grassroots course costs $80 at the time of registration

  • New referees who are 18+ must also complete a $30 background check with US Soccer

HOW DO I REGISTER for the in-person Mahtomedi HS Media Center course on Sunday, March 26th @ 9am - 2pm?

What if I can’t attend Mahtomedi’s clinic on 3/26?
